Pheolic resin, also known as Bakelite, is originally a colorless or yellowish-brown transparent substance. It is often sold in the market by adding coloring agents to red, yellow, black, green, brown, blue and other colors, in the form of granules or powder. It is resistant to weak acids and weak bases. It will decompose in strong acid and corrode in strong alkali. Insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents such as aceton and alcohol. It is derived from the condensation of penol aldehyde or its derivatives.

The solid phenlic resin is a yellow, transparent, and amorphous blocky substance. It is reddish due to the free phnol. The specific gravity of the solid is about 1.7. It is easily soluble in alcohol, insoluble in water, and stable to water, weak acid and weak alkali solutions. Resin made by condensation polymerization of pheol and formaldehyde under catalyst conditions, neutralization and water washing. Due to different catalysts, it can be divided into two types: thermosetting and thermoplastic. Pheolic resin has good acid resistance, mechanical properties, and heat resistance. It is widely used in anti-corrosion engineering, adhesives, flame retardant materials, grinding wheel manufacturing and other industries
